December 2001 a niece who lives in Seattle had twin boys.
I asked what sort of
quilts she would like and was told outdoorsy, how about one
water (blue) and one woods (green). So one color scheme became red, white and blue and the other yellow, brown and green. I didn't want them alike but still they needed to have some connection so I decided to use parts of the same landscape fabric for horizons and the same print in different colors for the borders. The sky in both is the same fabric (doesn't show the same color here). I rarely make pieced borders but it seemed to fit here and some fabrics were repeated in both. It was fun to find little things that could be used in "I spy style". Both are a combination of piecing and applique. Parts of different fabrics or unconnected parts of the same fabric were put together to achieve the desired landscape. Size 40" by 49" |
